Shadow and Act reported yesterday (January 27) that veteran filmmaker Julie Dash (“Daughters of the Dust”) will direct a feature film about the life of racial justice activist and scholar Angela Davis. Dash told the Black cinema site on Saturday (January 26)—the same day that Davis turned 75—that she will work with screenwriter Brian Tucker (“Broken City”) and producer Sidra Smith (“Free Angela and All Political Prisoners”). Davis is involved with the project, which begins shooting in June.
