The Pulitzer Prize-winning writer who consistently gave America unapologetic Blackness on the page has passed away.

“Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am,” in theaters next week, tells the amazing life story of one of the world’s most beloved writers, in her own words.

The announcement coincides with the racial justice activist’s 75th birthday.

The organization faced backlash and internal dissention after previously rescinding the Fred L. Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award.

Birmingham Civil Rights Institute recinded the activist and educator’s Fred L. Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award, saying, “she unfortunately does not meet all of the criteria on which the award is based.”
