A new public service announcement (PSA) campaign features children of immigrants addressing their fear that their parents will be deported. The television and radio PSAs began airing yesterday (May 25) in support of comprehensive immigration reform. 

"Every day, when I wait for my mom to pick me up from school, I get scared that she won’t be able to come," a child says in one PSA, while viewers see footage of a kid sitting alone on a school stairwell. "I wish my family could stay here together," another child says.

Child advocacy group First Focus created the PSAs—which will air in nine states and Washington, D.C.—for its new "My American Story" campaign. The campaign "seeks to raise awareness about the harmful impact of U.S. immigration policies on children and promote policy change to ensure that all children in America are able to grow up healthy and fulfill their full potential," according to a summary on its website.

First Focus developed "My American Story" in collaboration with regional broadcasters Bustos Media and Hubbard Broadcasting, as well as partner organizations We Belong Together, United We Dream, MomsRising and America’s Voice Education Fund. The campaign arrives just weeks ahead of the Supreme Court’s expected decision on the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action Program for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programs.
