Donald Trump, the Republican party’s presumptive presidential nominee, thinks racial profiling could prevent mass shootings like the one at Pulse Orlando last week.

During a phone interview with “Face the Nation” host John Dickerson, Trump said that political correctness is “killing us,” then went on to talk about how profiling Muslims would make the United States safer:

Well I think profiling is something that we’re going to have to start thinking about as a country. Other countries do it, you look at Israel and you look at others, they do it and they do it successfully. And I hate the concept of profiling but we have to start using common sense and we have to use our heads.

He also said that shootings like the one in San Bernardino last December could have been avoided if Muslims spoke up: “When you look at people within the Muslim community and where people are living and they don’t report, and a good example of that would be San Bernardino,” he said. “I mean, they had bombs all over their apartment floor and people saw it and nobody reported them, and 14 people were killed, many injured.”

Trump has previously called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” and advocacy group Islamic Human Rights Organization named him “Islamophobe of the Year” back in March. Watch his full “Face the Nation” interview above.
