Planned Parenthood launched a new campaign yesterday (February 13) to introduce legislation that advances reproductive rights to every state in the U.S. "We need to do more than just fight against the bad policies—now is the time to push for good ones," executive vice president Dawn Laguens said in a statement.

According to CNN:

The nonprofit is working alongside state lawmakers, advocates for reproductive rights and partners—such as the Oklahoma Coalition for Reproductive Justice, Latino Memphis in Tennessee and the Michigan Progressive Women’s Caucus—to push reproductive rights policies in more than a dozen states and D.C. this week. The organization, its partners, policymakers and activists plan to advance initiatives in all 50 states by the end of the year.

The policies will include pushing for wider access to abortions, birth control, sex education and reproductive health coverage. This effort builds on last year’s efforts, when a historic number of policies supporting reproductive rights were introduced at the state level.

The campaign announcement follows the news last month that Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood for more than a decade, plans to step down this year. Some advocates have been called for the next leader to be a woman of color, to help the organization effectively fight racism both inside and outside the movement for reproductive rights.
