One of the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers who killed Breonna Taylor in her home on March 13 after bursting in unannounced and unidentified is also currently under investigation for sexual assault, following accusations by two women, the Courier-Journal reported on June 9.
On June 4, the day before what would have been Taylor’s 27th birthday, two different women took to two different social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) to posted that officer Brett Hankison had offered them rides home from a bar because they were intoxicated and he was on duty (in uniform) only to then be on the other end of unwanted sexual advances.
"When I found out that Brett Hankison, whose face and presence in Louisville had haunted me for the last two years, was one of Breonna’s killers, I knew my time of being silenced by this man was over," accuser Margo Borders, told the Courier-Journal.
LMPD spokesperson Jessie Halladay confirmed the department was aware of the media posts and that the claims were being investigated. "If anyone has information about these cases, we encourage them to call (502) 574-7144," Halladay told the Courier-Journal.
In the Facebook post, Borders seemed to have preempted Halladay’s statement. “Brett Hankison has a history of violence, sexual assault, and planting drug evidence on people,” she wrote. “There have been multiple allegations against this man and reports but all cases dropped and no disciplinary action taken.”
On Instagram, Emily Terry wrote: “Flash forward, I see his face. This face. Involved with the shooting of Breonna Taylor. I then find out he has a history of corrupt behavior. He has had multiple sexual assault allegations, and was in a federal lawsuit over planting narcotics on a Black man to arrest him. Not all cops are bad, but this one is.”

In Taylor’s case, Hankison, Myles Cosgrove and Jonathan Mattingly are all on administrative reassignment while the investigation into her death continues, though none of them have been charged, according to the Courier-Journal.
