As the nation celebrates Juneteenth—June 19, 1865, was the day the last enslaved people in American learned that they were free—the House Committee on the Judiciary is holding a hearing on reparations. Titled “H.R. 40 and the Path to Restorative Justice,” it will feature testimony from writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, activist and actor Danny Glover and economist Dr. Julianne Malveaux.
