Deadline reported on Monday (January 28) that filmmaker Chinonye Chukwu will direct the upcoming film adaptation of Elaine Brown’s memoir, “A Taste of Power: A Black Woman’s Story.” The news came one day after Chukwu’s latest project, the incarceration drama “Clemency,” premiered to a standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival.

Brown, an activist best known as the only woman to chair the Black Panther Party, will executive produce the movie about her life and struggles with the revolutionary organization’s internal sexism. Alyssa Hill, whose script for “The Housewife” landed on the 2016 Black List of top unproduced projects, will adapt Brown’s book for the big screen.
