WATCH: Atlanta’s Hip-Hop History Takes the Stage in ‘The Art of Organized Noize’

By Sameer Rao Feb 10, 2016

Atlanta-based production trio Organized Noize was behind some of the most successful music of the ’90s and ’00s. Between their funk-heavy work on Outkast’s debut album and TLC’s smash hit "Waterfalls," they were central to making Atlanta the center of all things hip-hop during that period. Now, their remarkable story is the subject of a new documentary.

"The Art of Organized Noize" focuses on the rise and fall of Rico Wade, Ray Murray and Sleepy Brown against the backdrop of Atlanta’s increasing profile in a hip-hop world largely dominated by the East and West Coasts. Organized Noize’s production stamp helped define the sound of pre-trap Atlanta and influenced many artists—including Future and 2 Chainz, who appear in the documentary. The documentary even features a rare appearance from the ever-elusive Andre 3000.
