TODAY: National #PinkOut Day Supports Planned Parenthood, Provides Free STD Testing

By Kenrya Rankin Sep 29, 2015

As the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee meets today as part of its investigation into Planned Parenthood’s alleged improper sale of aborted fetal tissue for medical research, the group has organized a day of support that includes free STD testing in 28 cities around the country. The House investigation is similar to state-based, Republican-led probes triggered by deceptively edited "sting" videos created by The Center for Medical Progress, an anti-abortion outfit.

Part of National #PinkOut Day, the Planned Parenthood screenings are meant to provide a reminder of the range of services Planned Parenthood offers. According to the organization, it provides 2.7 million people in the United States with health services including cancer screenings, birth control, STD treatment and abortions each year. Planned Parenthood currently faces losing its federal funding following the release of the controversial videos that abortion opponents claim prove impropriety. Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards testified during a hearing today; click here to read the statement she submitted ahead of the hearing.
