LIVESTREAM: Watch Stars of ‘Underground’ at White House Panel Tonight

By Sameer Rao Feb 22, 2016

While you still have to wait until March to watch WGN America’s highly anticipated slavery drama "Underground," you can check out a panel featuring the show’s creators and stars tonight.

The screening is part of the White House Office of Public Engagement’s Black History Month event, "These Hallowed Grounds." It will be preceded by a panel featuring executive producer John Legend, stars Aldis Hodge ("Straight Outta Compton") and Jurnee Smollett-Bell ("Friday Night Lights") and other creators and actors. The panel will livestream via WhiteHouse.gov at 5:30 p.m. EST. It is set to address the thriller’s inspiration, which was drawn from the all-too-true tales of runaway slaves during the antebellum era.

"Underground" relays the tale of a blacksmith (Hodge) leading fellow slaves as they escape the cruelty of the plantation. It will premiere on Wednesday, March 9, on WGN America.
