The prolific rapper and activist says he supports Senator Sanders' presidential primary run because he defended the Voting Rights Act.

Killer Mike has what some would call unique political views. His critically-acclaimed music, particularly as one half of Run the Jewels, interrogates police brutality, but that hasn't stopped him from discussing his own family's employment in law enforcement. He has launched a failing campaign for an open Georgia state representative seat and later described it as a publicity stunt to draw interest in the election. And, particularly after the Emanuel AME Church massacre, he has advocated for Second Amendment rights

Yesterday, the Atlanta-bred artist univesrity lecturer (whose government name is Michael Render) took to social media again to throw his growing critical and political clout behind Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) for Democratic presidential primary. In a Twitter post, Mike attributed his support to Sanders' advocacy for the Voting Rights Act:

It's official I support @SenSanders! His call 4 the restoration of the voters rights act sealed the deal for me.

In addition, he posted to Instagram and called out Hillary Clinton's work with Barry Goldwater and the Republican party during the early-to-mid 1960s:

It remains to be seen whether or not Mike's endorsement will pan out for Sanders, or even Render's future political career.
