ICYMI: Check Out an Early Production Photo From Obama Date Chronicle ‘Southside With You’

Almost two decades before they became a intensely scrutinized and ubiquitous power couple, Michelle Robinson and Barack Obama were politically conscious and increasingly-enamored young adults. This stage of their relationship is the subject of the upcoming film "Southside With You," which dramatizes the couple’s first date in 1989 as they spend time at the Art Institute of Chicago and a screening of "Do the Right Thing."

The first principal photography pictures emerged on Variety and a number of other news outlets last week, featuring Tika Sumpter ("Get on Up," "Ride Along") and Parker Sawyers (the upcoming "Snowden" and "The Autoposy of Jane Doe") as the young couple on a walk through a park. You can check out one of the photos, released by the film’s production company IM Global (through which producer Bob Teitel is involved in the film), as taken from Variety’s Instagram page below:

Richard Tanne, who wrote the screenplay, makes his directorial debut with this to-be-released film.
