The Emmy-winning actress will introduce Jodie Landon, the wry, self-aware Black friend of Daria Morgendorffer, to a new generation. It will be the first adult animated series to feature a Black woman in nearly 20 years.

Here are the artists of color to cheer on when the Emmy Awards airs in September.

“Eight years of watching Michelle Obama as a person, not just relegated to doing ‘woman things,’ provided an antidote to all the false representations of Black women that have inundated us for centuries.”

The scripted audio series, which features Fishburne and Tate alongside Tika Sumpter and Tracee Ellis Ross, centers on the 1940s underground economy in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood.

Ross, Viola Davis, Donald Glover and more Black Hollywood luminaries won big at last night’s awards. 

Several directors, writers and performers of color in television and film were nominated for Golden Globes.
