A new film aims to tell the remarkable true story of the three unsung Black female heroes behind one of NASA’s most daring missions.

Golden Globe-winning actress Taraji P. Henson (“Empire”) stars as Katherine Johnson in “Hidden Figures.” She features alongside Oscar nominee Octavia Spencer (“Fruitvale Station”) as Dorothy Vaughn and singer Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson. The trio’s work was key to the Mercury and Apollo missions. Based on a book of the same name, the movie will explore the challenges they faced as they worked to put the first American man, John Glenn, in space.

The film’s cast will also include Mahershala Ali (“House of Cards”) and Aldis Hodge (“Straight Outta Compton”). It is directed by Theodore Melfi (“St. Vincent”) and is set to hit theaters on January 13, 2017.
