Yesterday (November 8), the reality television personality and real estate developer won 279 electoral votes—nine more than the 270 required for a victory. His Democratic challenger, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, received 218 electoral votes.
The Republican Party, which struggled internally during Trump’s controversial campaign, will retain control of the U.S. Senate, with 51 seats compared to Democrats’ 47. The House of Representatives will also remain under Republican control, with 236 seats.
