Today’s Love: Retrofit Republic Celebrates Community Heroes

This San Francisco-based Lookbook recognizes the city's gamechangers.

Today we want to send love out to those in our communities working for positive change and progress.

Retrofit Republic’s Community Heroes Lookbook does just that.

It’s nothing new that glossy fashion spreads seldom represent a diversity of physique and color–much less career and lifestyle. So, too, are we hard pressed to find visual coverage of community changemakers showcased in style. Retrofit Republic is a sustainable vintage retailer founded on the principles of fashion, eco-sustainability and social responsibility. With the company’s commitment to initiatives that benefit low-income populations, communities of color and the LGBTQ family, its latest lookbook places ten community heroes front and center, dressed to the nines and glowing with confidence and dedication to their missions.

From the City Guardian to the Revolutionary, the Thought Leader to the Climate Crusader, the photographs honor not only their individual fashion sensibilities but, in a larger context, the work they do. Those among us who are active in our communities can take a look at this collection and feel represented. So here’s to the movers and shakers, those who do the tough stuff, whose work isn’t always glamorous, but who show us: when you do good, you look good.

We’re ending the day as often as possible by celebrating love. We welcome your ideas for posts. Send suggestions to [email protected], and be sure to put Celebrate Love in the subject line. You can send links to videos, graphics, photos, quotes, whatever. Or just chime in to the comments below and we’ll find you. Be sure to let us know you’ve got the rights to share any media you send.
