The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) celebrates Black cinema with its first-ever Smithsonian African American Film Festival. The institution announced the festival, which takes place October 24-27, with a trailer yesterday (August 24).

An announcement notes that the festival will feature screenings of contemporary works and films from the museum’s archives. The event’s website lists a couple of these films, including "Four Women," "Sankofa," "Boom for Real" and “Take This Hammer."

It will also feature talkbacks, panels and master classes from prominent artists. The announcement adds that the festival will culminate with a ceremony honoring Madeline Anderson ("I Am Somebody") and Charles Burnett ("Killer of Sheep").
