Lauryn Hill is set to revisit her only solo studio album, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," with performances this spring and summer. The singer announced the 20th anniversary North American tour on her website yesterday (April 17). 

"This album chronicled an intimate piece of my young existence," Hill wrote about her 1998 record. "It was the summation of most, if not all, of my most hopeful and positive emotions experienced to that date. I loved and believed deeply in my community’s ability to both love and heal itself provided it received the right amount of support and encouragement. Our world today, both complex and changing, is in need of the balance between moral fortitude and cathartic expression. I hope the love and energy that permeated this work can continue to inspire change with love and optimism at the helm.”

The singer and rapper wrote and recorded the album after leaving The Fugees, her trio with Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel. "The Miseducation" earned tremendous critical and popular acclaim for its its candid lyrics and fusion of hip hop, R&B, gospel and reggae.

At the 41st Grammy Awards, Hill took home five awards in the ten categories she was nominated in—it was the most Grammys earned by a female solo artist at that point. "The Miseducation" was the first hip hop album to win the Album of the Year award.
