ICYMI: Animated Short ‘Your Black Friend’ Breaks Down How White Silence Fuels Racism

By Kenrya Rankin Jan 25, 2018

Ahead of the February release of the comic collection “Your Black Friend and Other Strangers,” writer and illustrator Ben Passmore and animators Krystal Downs and Alex Krokus dropped a short on Sunday (January 21) that explains exactly how it feels when so-called woke White people opt not to stand up to the racism of their peers.

The animated mini-film features a Black man overhearing an… interesting conversation in a coffee shop that brings into sharp focus the battle Black people fight every day to be seen and heard as human. The 120-page book it’s based on will tackle race, mass incarceration, gentrification and more.
