Senator Sherrod Brown: Terrorists ‘Look More Like Me’

By Sameer Rao Nov 24, 2015

Count Sherrod Brown among the politicians who think that armed white men are a bigger terrorist threat than Syrian refugees

During his November 19 interview with radio station WAKR, the senator addressed post-Paris attack hysteria and anti-Syrian refugee sentiment. Brown (D-OH), criticized the tendency of some Republican poilticians to connect the refugees to ISIS and the attacks and affirmed that attacks by armed white men have actually impacted more Americans since 9/11

Since the beginning of the Bush administration when we were attacked, Sept. 11, we’ve not had any major terrorist attack in this country. We’ve had individual crazy people; normally, they look more like me than they look like Middle Easterners. They are generally white males, who have shot up people in movie theaters and schools. Those are terrorist attacks; they’re just different kinds of terrorists.

Brown is one of the most prominent federal politicians to explicitly call the perpetrators of mass killings "terrorists." Listen to the full audio of his interview below.
