ICYMI: Writer Tweets Racist Letter She Received About Cam Newton

By Kenrya Rankin Feb 24, 2016

Just in case you weren’t sure that at least some of the vitriol directed toward Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is racially motivated, Newsday sportswriter Kimberley A. Martin lit up Twitter with proof. When a reader sent Martin, who is Black, a letter that attempted to break down what is terrible about Newton and every other Black person in America, she posted it for all to see. We’ll let it speak for itself:

Martin followed up with tweets explaining why she shared the letter, explaining: “It’s a reminder that racism, bigotry and prejudice are still rampant. We’ve made strides as a society, but let’s not act like all is well.” She added, “I’ve been called the n-word before, and so have some of my colleagues…. I also deal with sexist comments a lot. That shouldn’t surprise people.”
