Facebook’s Latest Diversity Report Shows Little Change

By Sameer Rao Jun 29, 2015

Despite Mark Zuckerberg’s publicly stated desire to change the demographics of Facebook to better reflect the company’s billion-plus international users, the company’s latest diversity report shows that white men still control most of the business. The report, released last Thursday, shows that the company’s white staff percentage has dropped from 57 percent to 55 percent since last year’s inaugural report. While the Asian employee percentage has climbed by 2 percent to 36 percent, the Latino, black and mixed-race percentages remain stagnant at 4, 2 and 3 percent, respectively.

At 73 percent, senior leadership positions are still overwhelmingly held, by white people. Female employment globally has only increased 1 percent to 32 percent.

Although the company is still lagging in filing its latest EEO report, the current report paints a problematic picture. The most recent accesseible EEO filing suggests that Facebook only hired seven black people in 2013, and only one of those hires is female.
