The state law, set to take effect on September 1, bans abortions as early as six weeks, and allows private citizens to sue anyone who helps a person get an abortion.
“So there’s hope on one side and despair on the other. I think the next year or two will be very telling,” says the executive director of The National Network of Abortion Funds.
“It’s time to center the voices of the vast majority of Native Americans who trust people to make private decisions about their reproductive health care without government interference.”
