Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé were all present at the BET Awards ceremony Sunday but the highlight of the show everyone is talking about today came from Cissy Houston. The most emotional moment of the evening came as Houston’s mother Cissy Houston sang "Bridge Over Troubled Waters," as part of a 20-minute tribute to the late singer that included performances by Monica, Brandy and Houston’s brother Gary Houston. The night also included tributes to other notables that left us in the past year. Chante Moore performed a medley of Donna Summer’s hits and Valerie Simpson sang a song in honor of her husband and writing partner Nick Ashford. Don Cornelius, Dick Clark and Hal Jackson were remembered. Also, right at the end of Kanye West’s performance, he name-dropped Rodney King and Whitney Houston. [Actor Jamie Foxx also wore a red shirt featuring a black-and-white photo of Trayvon Martin to the awards ceremony Sunday. ](https://colorlines.com/now/)
