Denzel Washington (“Training Day”) and Viola Davis (“How to Get Away with Murder”) each won Tony Awards for their respective performances as “Troy” and “Rose Maxon” in August Wilson’s ”Fences.” Today (September 27), Paramount offered the first trailer for the film adaptation of the play, which features the stars reprising their original roles.

Washington, who directed the film from Wilson’s adapted screenplay, stars as the former star baseball player and patriarch of a working-class Black family in 1950s Pittsburgh. Davis features as his long-suffering wife, who weathers infidelity, family tensions and occupational discrimination.

Actors Mykelti Williamson (“Justified”), Stephen Henderson (“Lincoln”) and Saniyya Sidney (“Roots”) also feature in pivotal roles.

Watch the moving trailer for “Fences,” which will debut in theaters on Christmas Day.
