On November 1, the world will get to see “Harriet,” a film about the life of Harriet Tubman. In the meantime, you can watch the first trailer for the Focus Features film, released Tuesday (July 23).

The film tells the story of one of America’s most famous heroes, who escaped a Maryland plantation in 1849 and returned 19 times to free an estimated 300 enslaved people. Cynthia Erivo (“Widows”) plays Tubman and Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe, Joe Alwyn, Jennifer Nettles and Clarke Peters round out the cast. Kasi Lemmons (“Marvel’s Luke Cage”) will direct from a screenplay she wrote with Gregory Allen Howard, reports Deadline.
