Bay Area MC and activist Boots Riley uses absurdism to explore race in his debut feature film, "Sorry to Bother You." Distributing studio Annapurna Pictures dropped the first trailer for the movie on Sunday (March 11).

It introduces Lakeith Stanfield ("Atlanta") as Cassius Green, a man in an alternate universe version of Oakland who lands a job at a mysterious telemarketing firm. Green uses his "White voice" on the advice of his colleague Langston (Danny Glover, "Proud Mary"). The decision proves successful and Green is promoted to "power caller" status, which grants him special access and an ever-growing paycheck. His professional advancement comes at a personal cost, however, as his girlfriend Detroit (Tessa Thompson, "Annihilation") accuses him of selling out. Green finds himself in increasingly strange situations as he falls deeper into his role.

Riley, who wrote and directed "Sorry to Bother You," premiered the movie at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It arrives in theaters on July 6.
