Watch Franchesca Ramsey Dismantle Top 5 Slavery Apologist Arguments

By Kenrya Rankin Aug 18, 2016

From John C. Calhoun’s “Positive Good” speech in 1837 to Bill O’Reilly saying that the slaves who built the White House were “well-fed,” White Americans have a long history of defending slavery. In the latest episode of her MTV web series “Decoded,” Franchesca Ramsey breaks down why those arguments are wrong and dangerous.

From the video:

“Newsflash: Though you might hate your job, slavery isn’t employment. It wasn’t voluntary and it has no comparison to working at a job. Being forcibly taken from your home, put in shackles on a disease infested ship and forced to do hard labor from sunrise to sunset is not the same thing as clocking in at Starbucks,” she says. “Slavery is forced labor. You have no autonomy, no pay and are subjected to unspeakable violence at the hands of people who undermine and devalue your basic humanity.”
