Produced in the spirit of classic 1990s Black romantic films like “Love Jones” and “Love & Basketball,” director Ava DuVernay‘s latest project centers Black intimacy. “[‘Cherish the Day’] explores Black love—which we don’t see enough,” DuVernay told attendees at a Television Critics Association (TCA) event for her new OWN series.

Starring Xosha Roquemore as Gently James, Alano Miller as Evan Fisher and Cicely Tyson as the matriarch of the cast, the eight-episode anthology, whose trailer uses Sade’s hit 1992 single of the same name as a musical backdrop, follows the love story of James and Fisher. Each episode represents a single day of the couple’s epic five-year relationship and focuses on a significant moment, from the grand to the seemingly small.

The series premieres over two nights, on February 11 and February 12.
