Author, poet and activist Staceyann Chin has written about her journey to motherhood as a single lesbian. Now her 3-year-old daughter, Zuri, is already following in her mama’s activist footsteps.

The "Living Room Protest" videos Chin has posted since December feature mother and daughter reciting chants such as "No justice, no peace!" and "I can’t breathe!" But the third installment, pasted below, gets into a more specific topic facing Zuri and young children generally–getting consent before touching or picking up a child. In the sweet and somewhat silly video, Zuri and Staceyann lay out the basics: "No means no" and always get permission before touching, even if it’s a child."

It’s an important message delivered by a beautiful little family. Chin also has a lively and honest Facebook page, where you can follow her as she writes about everything from politics and race to her haiku-like posts about sex and the day-to-day minutiae of motherhood.
