Hip-hop royalty anointed a new legend this weekend when Yasiin Bey (the artist formerly known as Mos Def) joined Kendrick Lamar onstage at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival for a performance of the latter’s avante-hop hit “Alright.”

You can check out a video of the performance above — it’s not the best resolution, but given Bey’s contemporary reclusiveness and reluctance to perform or appear in media the way that he has in the past, this is the best you’ll get for a long time. Bey’s appearance on “Alright,” an anthem for transcendence through dark times that became a rallying cry during a demonstration at the Movement for Black Lives conference in Cleveland, makes sense when put in conversation with his longtime activism against police brutality.
