Beyoncé may be trying too hard to outdo her “Single Ladies” music video.
S2smagazine.com is reporting Beyoncé is bringing 200 African dancers together for her latest video. According to the site, a source close to singer said the dancers will incorporate some of their native moves into the music video for a new single entitled “Girl.” That could be great, but it could also be a disaster–and Beyoncé’s newfound love for Africa has already spawned some dreadful imagery.
Earlier this year Beyonce sported black face, animal bone necklaces and headdresses in what was suppose to show off a “return to Beyoncé’s African roots.” The photos, shot for a spread in French fashion magazine L’Officiel Paris, sparked international controversy and forced the magazine to release a statement trying to diffuse the uproar by explaining its intentions.
If the rumors about the “Girl” video are indeed true, let’s hope it doesn’t go the way of Victoria’s Secret “wild things” runway fiasco–which paraded all of the models of color down the runway alongside tribal dancers.
Beyoncé’s new album is slated for a June release. Her fourth LP may include collaborations with Sleigh Bells, Diplo and Los Angeles hip-hop collective Odd Future.
