Here’s your first look at the posters for Tyler Perry’s new movie, "For Colored Girls," his film adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s much revered 1975 play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf."

Gossip about the movie’s casting and characters has long swirled around the movie and now it seems as if it’s finally a reality. The movie is slated to hit theaters on November 3; its release date was moved up so it’d be eligible for Oscar contention.

Shange’s critically acclaimed play is built on a set of monologues of sorts, women of color who bring to life every color of the rainbow by telling stories about what it means to be black and a woman.

This is the first film that the polarizing director has taken on that he will not have an acting role in. And that sound you hear? It’s community that’s collectively holding its breath, awaiting the movie with great trepidation. Some are plain ol’ excited about the film. Many have already said that there’s no way that the commercial film director will do Shange’s play justice. And for still others, Perry’s track record of one-dimensional, reductive female characters does not bode well for his new film.
