Annie Wu is one talented young flautist. "One in a million," according to her teacher Isabelle Chapuis, who first recognized Wu’s incredible talent two years ago. The 15-year-old’s head-bobbing rendition of The Three Beats for Beatbox Flute is enough to convince us as well–not to mention the judges at the 2011 National Flute Association’s annual convention. Greg Pattillo, who composed the piece, was among the judges who awarded Wu the Best Performance of a new work commissioned by the association.

Wu also won the NFA’s Young Artist Flute Soloist Competition, making her the youngest winner in the NFA’s 33-year-history. A sophomore at Foothill High School, she also plays in San Francisco Youth Symphony Orchestra and has performed twice at Carnegie Hall. Behind her impressive resumé, we’re glad to know she loves what she does. "Performing is a lot of fun for me," she said. Rocking to the classical beat, her aviators and side-slung hat are proof of that.
