Today’s Love Goes to Music Bringing Home and Family Closer

Jan 04, 2011

In April of 2010 I sent an MP3 to my cousin Morelia, who was traveling through South Korea. "So I’ve been listening to this one song a lot," read the email’s subject. "You’re away from home and I thought it’d only be appropriate to share this song with you," I continued to write in the message.

I sent her Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros’s "Home." It goes a little something like this:

Home, Let me come Home
Home is Whenever Im with you
Home, yes I am Home
Home is wherever Im with you

This morning, almost a year later, my cousin Morelia sent me the video above of a father and his daughter covering the song.

The video, which took about "nine-or-ten practice runs" was shot by Jorge Narvaez and features him and his daughter Alexa Narvaez singing "Home."

At the 1:00 mark Alexa’s eyes light up and she turns over to look at her father and sings the lyrics written above. And that’s today love, music bringing home and family closer.

Below you’ll hear the original version of the song. Edward Sharpe’s manager Bryan Ling posted the video on the bands Facebook page and wrote "the band absolutely loves it and I hope us sharing it with the world brings something positive for you and your family. All the best!"

Lastly, un agradecimiento especial y un abrazo to my cousin Morelia Rivas (who loves music and great covers) for sharing this video with me.
