Spike Lee Filming Mini-Doc About Mizzou Student Protests

By Kenrya Rankin Mar 10, 2016

Last fall, students at the University of Missouri (widely referred to as Mizzou) touched off a tidal wave of student protests across the country when they forced the university president to resign for not acting to correct the school’s systemic race problems. Now, director Spike Lee will give their journey the documentary treatment.

Called “2 Fists Up,” the mini-documentary will be the next installment in the Spike Lee’s Lil’ Joints series, which features sports stories that center African Americans. The film short will zoom in on the football team, which threatened to strike in a show of solidarity with campus organization Concerned Student 1950.

“2 Fists Up” will premiere at the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival in April and will be released digitally on May 31.
