Billboard magazine honored Solange‘s creative contributions to anti-racist discourse with the American Express Impact Award at the Billboard Women in Music 2017 ceremony last night (November 30).
“She embodies bravery, with her freedom to speak her truth, to not stay silent and to be in control of her own narrative,” American Express vice president of global marketing Deborah Curtis said before bringing Solange on stage.
Solange touched on her 2016 album, “A Seat at the Table,” in her acceptance speech. “I have so much gratitude in my soul for…the way my work connected with people,” she said, as quoted by Billboard. "When I think about the word ‘impact,’ I can’t think of a more humbling way to articulate the mark that I would have liked to leave on the world with this work.”
