Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler gave Shuri, Okoye and the rest of the powerful women in his movie some shine during a talk at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday (May 10). 

“We have these actresses who could easily carry their own movie,” he said, as quoted by Variety. When asked if he would do a spin-off focusing on those characters, Coogler responded, “That would be amazing, if the opportunity came up. They did it in the comic book version.”

An earlier “Black Panther” comic series made Shuri, T’Challa’s brilliant sister and advisor, the titular hero. Marvel’s comics division also published “World of Wakanda” from writers Roxane Gay and Yona Harvey, which followed two Dora Milaje recruits. And the company recently tapped Nnedi Okorafor to write a new future storyline for the fighting force.
