Legendary tennis champion, hall of famer and Virginia’s native son Arthur Ashe will be honored Saturday (June 22) with well-deserved  pomp and circumstance. The Virginia Museum of History & Culture, the city of Richmond, the Arthur Ashe Boulevard Initiative and the Commonwealth of Virginia will host the official dedication ceremony for the newly named Arthur Ashe Boulevard, the museum announced. The free public event will include the unveiling of the sign and remarks from iconic civil rights activist Representative John Lewis (D-Ga.).

Following the dedication ceremony and “in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in British North America,” the museum will premiere a new exhibition. Determined: The 400-Year Struggle for Black Equality, includes the Ashe ’68 Virtual Reality Experience and Ashe ’68 Photo Exhibit. The event will conclude with a State of Black America town hall discussion at the museum, featuring Representative A. Donald McEachin (D-Va.) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
