Relive the Hits From the Badass Women Featured at This Year’s ‘Hip Hop Honors’

Many great Black female rappers and singers, whose invaluable contributions to hip-hop history are too often overlooked, took center stage last night (July 11) as honorees and performers at "VH1 Hip Hop Honors: All Hail The Queens."

This year, VH1’s revived ceremony and live hip-hop revue focused on the women who were crucial to the growth of this culture. The likes of Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Salt-N-Pepa and host Queen Latifah all received tributes to their art and work. Other notable female hip-hop artists, like Eve and Remy Ma, also took the stage.

The event also centered the Black Lives Matter movement, with opening remarks from Alicia Garza and Darnell L. Moore and a speech by Common highlighting the movement’s female leaders, inspirations and leading lights (including Diamond Reynolds, who posted a video of her partner, Philando Castile, dying from police bullets).

VH1 posted several ceremony highlights on its website. Before you check out those, we honor hip-hop’s leading lights ourselves with the music videos below:
