Raury Protests Donald Trump During Searing ‘Late Show’ Performance

By Sameer Rao Sep 23, 2015

Continuing the show’s winning streak of game-changing musical and political moments, 19-year-old Raury performed a rousing version of his song "Devil’s Whisper" on last night’s "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert." The Atlanta rapper/singer performed the song with a full backing band, and the performance (which you can see above) will captivate you.

But what’s got the world buzzing about this performance from an upstart young MC isn’t the musical theatrics, but what he wore. On an evening when Republican presidential candidate* Donald Trump was the main guest on the show, the musician stood against him with a Mexico national soccer team shirt that, when he turned back to play a massive drum, revealed the word "TRUMP" on the back, crossed out in red.

This is a rare political statement for any musician to make, let alone one so young, in his first nationally televised appearance.
