Tuesday’s (August 9) phenomenal three gold medals from gymnasts of color further cemented the U.S. Olympic Team place at the top of the Rio Olympics’ medal count. As we continue our #POCMedalWatch, American Olympians maintain that lead with a new silver medal.

Daryl Homer, Fencing
Homer, a native of the U.S. Virgin Islands, took home a silver medal in the men’s individual sabre fencing competition. He earned his medal by beating Iran’s Mojtaba Abedini, though he ultimately lost the gold to Hungary’s Áron Szilágyi. USA Today reports that Homer made history as the first American to win the silver medal in this event in 112 years.

Homer’s silver medal yesterday (August 11) contibuted to Team USA’s total of 32 medals—11 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze. And it brings the POC medal count to nine.
