Phoebe Robinson’s New ‘Sooo Many White Guys’ Podcast Highlights Creators from Marginalized Groups

As her "2 Dope Queens" co-host Jessica Williams pursues her own new, post-"The Daily Show With Trevor Noah" Comedy Central program, comedian Phoebe Robinson is busying herself with a solo podcast highlighting creators from marginalized groups.

Titled "Sooo Many White Guys," Robinson’s podcast debuted yesterday (July 13) via WNYC, the same station that produces "2 Dope Queens." It features interviews with artists, comedians, writers and other entertainment personalities pursuing creative endeavors despite straight White men’s industry dominance.

"Coming from a comedy background where cis straight White dudes are the norm and everyone else is the ‘Other’ or the token, it feels great to flip that and have the majority of the guests on ‘SMWG’ be women, people of color and LGBTQ+ folks and not reduce them to what they identify as on a census form," said Robinson in a statement emailed to Colorlines. She also mentioned that the weekly podcast’s initial eight-episode run will feature one token White man as a guest.

The first episode, which you can listen to here, features Minneapolis rapper Lizzo. Future guests will include actress Nia Long ("The Best Man Holiday") and journalist and trans rights activist Janet Mock.

New episodes of "Sooo Many White Guys" drop every Tuesday.
