On June 16, a jury declined to convict former St. Anthony, Minnesota, police officer Jeronimo Yanez for killing 32-year-old Philando Castile. Today (June 26), Castile’s family has reached a civil settlement with the city.

Per a joint statement released by the family and St. Anthony officials, the settlement is for $2.995 million. It will be funded by the city’s insurance.

From the statement:

The death of Philando Castile is a tragedy for his family and for our community. The parties moved expeditiously to resolve potential civil claims resulting from this tragedy in order to allow the process of healing to move forward for the Castile family, for the people of St. Anthony Village and for all those impacted by the death of Philando Castile throughout the United States.

The family will use the settlement to fund the Philando Castile Relief Foundation. According to its Facebook page, the organization seeks to “help other victims of gun violence and add some relief as you grieve.”
