PBS Documentary Tells the Story of Chicano Rock

By Leticia Miranda Oct 28, 2009

PBS will be debuting a new documentary called Chicano Rock! The Sounds of East Los Angeles on December 14. The documentary, narrated by Edward James Olmos (of course, if it’s anything Chicano, Olmos has his fingerprint on it somewhere), follows Chicano rock through the barrios of East Los Angeles, CA. They follow the music from Lalo Guerrero during the Great Depression through the 1960s East LA art renaissance and the number one hit "Whittier Blvd" by Thee Midniters up until today’s Chicano music staples, Quetzal and Ozomatli. Check out the trailer.
