Tonight (January 30), at 9 p.m. EST, President Donald Trump will give his first State of the Union (SOTU) address before a joint session of Congress. The State of Our Union
Starts at 8 p.m. EST
Led by Ai-jen Poo of National Domestic Workers Alliance, Tarana Burke of Girls for Gender Equity and the MeToo movement, Mónica Ramirez of National Farmworker Women’s Alliance, Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood, Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner of MomsRising and Arisha Hatch of Color of Change, this alternative event aims to provide a new vision for the nation that directly addresses gender inequality. Representatives Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), Judy Chu (D-Calif.) and Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) are slated to speak in addition to more than a dozen others, including Black Lives Matter Global Network co-founder Alicia Garza.

The People’s State of the Union Response
Starts immediately after the Democratic Response to the SOTU (around 10 p.m. EST)
Hosted by Campaign Zero co-founder and Teach for America vice president of national community alliances Brittany Packnett, this event will feature responses to the SOTU from 10 activists in 10 arenas that encompass everything from civil rights to environmentalism.

Starts at 11 p.m. EST
Correspondent Roy Wood Jr. will deliver a response to the SOTU on tonight’s live episode of “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah.” His speech “is expected to cover a wide range of Black shit.”

Actress Alyssa Milano will lead a digital protest during the SOTU with the goal of advocating for a legislative solution that will provide a path to citizenship for people who arrived in the United States as children (commonly referred to as “Dreamers”), fundraising for nonprofit United We Dream and envisioning a “more inclusive, progressive America.” Participants are encouraged to post videos that illustrate their dreams for America right at 9 p.m. EST, then join a tweet storm using the hashtag #StateOfTheDream.
