New BET Doc Highlights Role of District Attorneys in Mass Incarceration

By Sameer Rao Nov 02, 2016

An upcoming BET documentary visits New Orleans, Milwaukee and Baltimore to investigate the role that district attorneys (DAs) play in the disproportionate incarceration of people of color.

"As a prosecutor, your duty is to seek justice over convictions," says Marilyn Mosby, the controversial Baltimore state’s attorney, in the trailer for "Charged: The DA vs. Black America." Narrated by The Roots’ Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter, the documentary pledges to explore the sentencing disparities that ground today’s widespread mass incarceration.

"Charged" is the latest in BET’s "The Truth Series" documentaries, which investigate Black culture and history. It airs on November 7.
