A short distance away from an area in West Baltimore where yesterday’s protests became violent, a Michael Jackson impersonator named Dimitri Reeves danced in the streets to a few of the late artist’s most popular tracks. 

Reeves performances of "Beat It," "Come Together," and "Scream," some of which took place on vehicles, became the soundtrack to what was unfolding in the city. Perhaps the most relevant of the tracks Reeves blasted was Jackson’s "They Don’t Really Care About Us," which includes lyrics about injustice and anger such as, "I am the victim of police brutality, now/I’m tired of bein’ the victim of hate." 

In an interview with the National Post, Reeves spoke about his purpose.

[M]ainly what we’ve been doing this for is to promote peace….Gang members stopped and danced with us, told us keep on moving and spreading the positive message. The protesters stopped and told me keep on going.

Reeves tweeted a message today in response to the destruction.
