Actor and producer Michael B. Jordan ("Black Panther") travels back to the 1940s for "The Liberators," a film about Black soldiers in World War II.

Variety reported yesterday (March 19) that Jordan will produce the historical action-drama film for Warner Bros. through his own entertainment company, Outlier Society. "The Liberators" will tell the story of the 761st Tank Battalion, an entirely Black United States Army regiment that served with distinction in Europe.

According to the U.S. Army Center of Military History, the 761st Tank Battalion landed in France in 1944 before fighting Nazi German troops throughout Western Europe. They were one of only a few all-Black units in the segregated military to command war machinery. The success of this unit, and other Black military regiments like the Tuskeegee Airmen, contributed to President Harry S. Truman desegregating the armed forces in 1948.
